Musical Life
My musical life at Penn State is the most important aspect of my life. Previous to my college experience, I looked for every musical opportunity my town could offer, including District and Regional Festivals, the York Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the West York Area High School Marching Band, Concert Band, Pit Orchestra, Drumline, Jazz Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble. I also took lessons on four instruments. At Penn State, I feel that all of my previous experience is helping me to step up the the collegiate level and become the best musician I can be. Not only do the faculty here possess extreme talent and credentials, but my peers are also fantastic musicians and a joy to work with. My semester spent in the Flute Ensemble has introduced me to great literature and styles of music, such as when we read a jazz piece. Symphonic Band has also taught me new ways of playing in an ensemble and extending my ears. My musical life here is the most exciting and invigorating thing I have ever experienced. As a part of my freshman music seminar, I completed several assignments that looked deeper into why I am the musician that I am today. They are attached below.
